Designing an outdoor space is a daunting task, which requires a considerable investment of time, money, and energy. However, provided that you do it right, the undertaking is more than worth it. You can boost the curb appeal and functionality of the yard, greatly enhancing your enjoyment of it in the process.
Besides, in case you do not fancy a DIY approach, you may always rely on professionals. Here is one example of a project done right, where the Landscaping Contractor handled all the work with flying colors.
lawn and shrubs were in decent shape, but that was the extent of Landscaping work put into the space. So, we had to roll up the sleeves and brace ourselves!
Out with the old! That was the mantra as we jackhammered out the old concrete surface. After a bit of noise and destruction, we disposed of the material with a trailer.
The trees were wild so we had to cut them down and remove the stumps with a stump grinder. A similar fate befell the bushes in the front of the house.
We had to dig a rock pit as this home had no storm drain to the street.
First we dig the pit and trench, then added landscaping felt, perforated PVC pipe and crushed rock.
Naturally, “hardscaping” comes before setting out any plants. The first thing to do was to dig the holes in the ground. They would serve as foundations for posts that compose the pergola. These wooden frames were filled with cement and knife plates to conceal the connection at the base of the posts.
We laid gravel and a 1" sand base for the paving stones from Bricks n Blocks in North Vancouver to construct the patio. Workers paid special attention to areas around post foundations, where the blocks had to fit like a glove.
Similarly to the garden fence, a pergola defines the outdoor space and makes an inviting area for relaxation and entertainment. When assembling it, one has to measure twice and cut once, using a hand saw, circular saw, or specialized tools.
Next, the front/back and left/right crosspieces were attached. The posts were sprayed with a clear finish.
Finally, we could ditch the tools marvel the results. The garden seems unrecognizable now, doesn't it?
A personal oasis
It goes without saying that landscape construction is no walk in the park. It demands both thorough planning and smooth execution. Still, we have demonstrated how a stunning landscape transformation can take place. If you mean to carry out a successful garden project, you have to come up with a plan and cover all the bases.
The ultimate reward comes in the form of being able to immerse in the great outdoors and migrate there during the hotter part of the year. It does not hurt either that such spectacle wows the guest before they even enter your home. So, do not miss a chance to make a positive change and treat yourself with a majestic outdoor sanctuary.
